The Italian Gardens

The Italian Gardens at Holywell are hidden and isolated under the Helen Gardens. These grottos are just a short walk from Holywell beach. They were once a separate quarry cut into the chalk cliffs above the waterline.

Early in the 20th century, they were transformed into the gardens we see today. Today, this grotto is great for a picnic lunch and some quiet time away from the commotion of the rest of the world. The Italian Gardens offer outdoor Shakespeare plays every year in July.
